It's birthday season around here. We celebrated Shelby's 5th birthday on Saturday at the Backyard Barnyard Petting Zoo. Despite the 100% chance of rain, the party went off without a hitch and we all had a great time. We fed the animals, rode the pony and enjoyed our hayride to the pumpkin patch. The weather stayed clear all day and was just dreary enough to keep other folks away! :)
Shelby and I put together her Barbie cake the night before. The idea of making it seemed overwhelming at first, but it came together much easier than I expected. Shelby couldn't conceptualize a Barbie cake where the cake was her dress and so the process of building it was crazy exciting. :) I predict that when Shelby is 15, she'll remember the year we made the Barbie cake together.
At 5 years old, Shelby loves to dress up, put on shows, make up and sing songs, dance, color and play Barbie. She lives life with full-speed ahead joy. She's the kid who will give her sister her brand new just out of the box toy because her sister wants it. She is loving beyond measure. She is dramatic, a great snuggler and absolutely hilarious. Though her fits are as passionate as her play, Shelby is a joy to mother. I love that kid so much I could just squeeze her silly. I thank God every single day for my sweet Shelby Lynn.
