Scott is running the Mercedes Marathon on Valentines Day in honor of Caroline. The Mercedes Marathon (the full 26.2 miles!) is held in Birmingham every year. It is the largest fund raiser for Caroline's unbelievably fantastic school, The Bell Center. The Bell Center is an early intervention center that provides physical, occupational, speech and special education therapy for kids at risk for developmental delay. This place works miracles, I kid you not. Caroline currently attends The Bell Center on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons for an hour of one on one therapy. Not only do they provide dedicated therapy services but, my parent perspective says that the greatest gift that they give to the parents and children they serve is HOPE. It is a JOYFUL place that is full of children who are celebrated, encouraged and truly seen as the beautiful priceless gifts that they are. I have become passionate about the Bell Center, early intervention and Caroline Braddock.
So, my dear sweet crazy husband has always wanted to run a marathon. When we learned about The Bell Center and this Mercedes Marathon, it just seemed like a natural fit. He has been running and running and running. He received a kit in the mail yesterday with all of his final information about the race. Inside was a sign to wear during the race that will be pinned to his back. It says "Running for Caroline" and has a picture of our beautiful daughter on it. I seriously couldn't be prouder. I am always so proud of Scott. Today I am so proud of his follow-through, his dedication and his love for sweet Caroline. I'm proud to be Caroline's mama. I'm proud to be associated with The Bell Center. I'm proud to have the opportunity to give you a chance to support an OUTSTANDING organization.
If you read this, you've probably already donated. We have been OVERWHELMED with the support that we've received. When we were told that we had to raise $1200 in order for Scott to run, I honestly thought that we might raise half of that and would pay the other half out of pocket. Turns out, that's not the case. So many of you have given in a sacrificial, loving, bring me to tears thinking about it kind of way, that I can't even begin to express my gratitude. Thank you. However, the other .05% of you that might be reading this and haven't yet given, I'm happy to point you in the right direction. Just click here and you can give online in 2 minutes or less.
This is big for us. Thank you for celebrating this with us. I'd ask that you remember Scott in your prayers as we're now in the 10 day countdown. Pray the old man's knees will hang in there. :) Pray with me for joy in all circumstances. Joy in the anticipation, joy in the worthiness of the run, joy in the completion, joy in the 23rd mile..and 24th...and 25th...

Hi Katie! You don't know me. My name is Sarah Carlisle and I found your blog by accident through Amy Spencer. She filled in for me at my dental clinic and had been looking at your blog on my computer. I also have a precious daughter named Caroline with Down Syndrome. She was born July 7th of last year which makes her only a month younger than your Caroline. The first time I came across your blog, your Caroline was just about to have her surgery. I've been reading it ever since, and i asked amy if she thought you'd mind if i contact you. Caroline is doing so great at the Bell Center. I wish we had a place like that. She just started have therapy once a week instead of every other week and i wish it were more! Anyway, i've been very encouraged by you and your family and would love to chat with you sometime through email. Hope I don't sound like a stalker. I just thought it was so neat that i found you by accident and our daughters are so close in age and will have so much in common as they grow up.
Hope to hear from you! My email address is sarahcrisler@yahoo.com
So how was the marathon? Can't wait to hear! And Sarah if you read this I already told Katie wonderful things about you and your Caroline so no need to worry about being a stalker!
Nice running today JSB! Katie and I followed your progress online. I can hardly finish an "outer" much less a marathon...good work buddy!
I'm ready for the details and pictures from the marathon! Patiently waiting...
