The failure of the House of Rep to pass the so called "Bailout Bill" today is frustrating me to the point of nausea. Those politicians from both parties who have been nitpicking and arguing and arguing and arguing for more than a week, finally came to a consensus about a bill that they all agree works for the American people. In an obnoxious show of politics they couldn't seem to vote for it today and now won't vote again until at least Thursday. In the meantime, they keep reminding us that our economy is on the brink of a disaster like we've never seen. What frustrates me even more is the stupid "news" channels who keep blaming the economic mess on the Bush administration. I may only have an underused very expensive degree in political science, but from what I remember from American Government 101, it is the Congress who makes law. I surely wish that SOMEBODY would remember that before the election of 2006 (when the Democrats took over), our economy was running along swimmingly and everybody thought that Pres. Bush was doing a fine job.
While I'm on a rant, let me give another totally unsolicited opinion... You're still reading, right?? I truly don't understand why so many people vote for candidates based on the opinions of rosy-eyed politicians who will promise the pie in the sky to get elected. I don't blame them, exactly. They can't get elected without loads of money and they have to say whatever X group wants them to say in order to get loads of money. However, every election it seems that the candidates seem to forget campaign promises and just do the best job that they can with the politics and circumstances presented them. That being the case, I certainly want a candidate elected that has life experience that is honorable and a public policy record that is vast and consistent. Being a charismatic speaker is a great quality, but I certainly desire more from a presidential candidate. End of rant.
What a boring post! Who wants to talk politics??? Not me. There used to be a time that I could stay up all night and debate social and political issues with the best of them. However, in my old age :) I find myself to be much more apathetic and cynical of politics in general. I've begun blaming this in part to my underused but very expensive degree and the experience that I had in college. While it was very eye-opening to this small town Alabama girl and great preparation for some of my Navy experiences, it also led me to understand that there is certainly more than one side to every issue. Nothing is ever as black and white as it seems in trying to establish public policy and I'd have to spend many many more hours than I actually have studying things before asserting an opinion these days. HOWEVER, I do recognize bad politics, poor leadership, and scary politicians.
Whew! That was heavy. No more politics talk for awhile, I promise. Next time I'll try to have pictures of my beautiful children picking flowers or something else sunshiney that you might find on a political commercial instead....
