Sunday Night Church

Before I forget, I wanted to clarify something from the last post.  Scott has joined the Navy Reserves and he's currently based in Atlanta.  He goes for his first "indoc" weekend at the end of the month.  That's how I'm a "recently reinstated Navy wife" as I mentioned before.  :)  Thanks for asking!

Well, after 8 months of living in Alabama, I think that we've finally found a church home.  I was especially excited about this particular church because they have a huge children's program - including Awana.  Our church in CA had an Awana program and I knew from that how much information the kids learned and how much everybody seemed to enjoy it.  Anyway, I was excited and ready for my kids to get involved in something besides school.  Then I became excited about the IDEA of Awana and hesitant about the practical application of it.  It meets on Sunday nights and I've become very stingy with our family time.  Ever since Grace has started school, it just seems like time is flying by and I don't have her at home much.  Adding a regular Sunday night thing and potentially a Wed night church thing hasn't ranked high on my priority list.  I think that maybe it's just not a habit that we've developed yet and once we do, missing church on Sunday night will be a difficult concept.  In almost 9 years of marriage, Scott and I have been Presbyterians, Methodists, Non-Denoms, Baptists that over the course became more Non-Denoms, and now Southern Baptists.  We've been all over the board, but not once in a church that had Sunday night/Wednesday night church.

All that to say that we did our first Sunday night/Awana night last night.  The girls LOVED it.  They have a separate class for all 3 of the girls and they've already come home with Bible verses to memorize.  I'm VERY excited about another opportunity for the girls to learn Scripture and study the Bible with other kids their age.  I'm not ready to commit to Wednesdays just yet, but judging from how well Sunday night went over, it's probably just a matter of time.  :)

If your church is anything like ours in Andalusia, you can definitely have FAMILY time at church! It seems like we were always eating together as a family-just get to include other church people too. Also, are you considering volunteering to help teach Awana? Walker & I both liked it a lot, and as leaders, there's verses that we had to memorize too. I'll look forward to hearing what they learn! Glad y'all enjoyed it! let me know if you need a Sparks or TNT Shirt! :) We're planning on coming to Hartselle next week, so we'll see you then.
