We had a very blessed Christmas this year. Despite the fact that Scott spent most of the holiday shuttling between Salt Lake City & Portland, we Braddock girls had a great time celebrating Jesus' birthday. We went to the church that Scott and I grew up in on Christmas Eve and had dinner with Mary K & Michael afterwards. Both were a nice treat and helped to put us all in the Christmas mood. I'm soooooooooooo thankful that my parents drove back from being with my sisters on Christmas Eve so that they could be with us on Christmas morning. If it had been just me and my girls on Christmas morning, I might've needed some serious psychological help. Thankfully, that wasn't the case and my parents came over to open presents with us.
We had a very relaxed Christmas morning. The girls were truly a blessing to watch as they opened presents. Instead of a flurry of wrapping paper and toys being thrown around, the girls opened each present as if it were the only one - enjoying the unwrapping, oohing & ahhing over each gift, even taking it out of the box and playing for a minute before moving on to the next one. I was so grateful for their Christmas morning experience. I was crazy bummed out that not only Scott but my sisters and their families weren't here to celebrate. Also, our financial situation this year is dramatically different from Christmases past. I know good & well that Christmas isn't about the presents, but I still had a huge desire to make Christmas special for the girls - so much so that they wouldn't notice there were far fewer presents and family members around this year. Thankfully, as children do, they found great joy in simple pleasures and made Christmas extra special for me this year.
We spent Christmas afternoon with Scott's family, eating & opening more presents. The girls enjoyed every minute of time spent with their cousins, making gingerbread houses and playing with their new Barbies. We have truly been blessed.
