The preschool ministry at our new church has playgroups every week. Last week, Shelby and I headed to a playdate at an old hangout - the Skate Castle.
My parents' house sits on top of a hill and the road in front of it sits on top of another hill. It was never an ideal location for bike riding or skating when we were kids. However, they do have a very cool concrete floor basement with a fireplace right in the middle of the room. For Ashley, Allyson and me, this created a perfect roller skating rink. We spent countless hours skating around and around in circles to the music. I've never been an athlete and had the satisfaction of doing anything well physically - except roller skating. :) Therefore, trips to the Skate Castle were an extra treat. It was fun, social and I was really good at it....right up my alley!! :)
Imagine my delight to now be able to introduce the Skate Castle to my sweet daughters!! (well, that might be a tad dramatic, but I was excited to take Shelby) I haven't stepped foot into the Skate Castle in at least 15 years. Wanna know something funny?? It looks EXACTLY the same. Same snack bar, same arcade games, same day-glo benches for putting on your skates, same giant roller skates on the wall, same strobe/flashing/rotating lights. Only smaller - at least it seemed to be smaller to this 15 year older mama.
For preschoolers, they had added a bounce house obstacle course and big indoor playground/ball pit. They played preschool music (read Princess songs) and put roller racers on the hardwood skating rink. Shelby was in heaven. She kept running around yelling, "This is UNBELIEVABLE!!" The kids played Wipeout (while running - not on skates), the Hokey Pokey, and the Chicken Dance. They put skates on the kids for the last 15 minutes (old school kind with 4 wheels and everything!) and Shelby had a great time skating. "I'm soooooo good at this, aren't I mama???" What a fun time!! I can't wait until after this baby is born so that I can put skates on and show these kids how it's done!!! (well, maybe I'll continue to talk a big game anyway...)
Have a great long weekend!!!

That is awesome! I went skating last year for a bday party and brought my old racing skates in my purple skate clase. it was too fun!
Only Meredith would have old racing skates with a purple skate case. She probably has her own bowling ball too! Hope you have a great time in Enterprise. Say hello to the big "D" for me if you make it to the circle city.
No bowling ball for me. Only skates. I also had purple skate covers that I used when I had to rent skates. You could always tell they were rented because of the orange wheels but I liked to pretend they were mine:)
I'm There on my next trip home. AND as an added bonus-I'm not pregnant-so I'm full-out ready to skate! I would love it! I guess it's been 9 years since I went. Renee and Lauren Sulcer had their b'day party there, and I'm pretty sure I was a freshman at AU at the time. ANYHOW...THAT IS FUN! Shelby is destined to be a fine skater! :) She's got it in her blood. I mean-I hear you! I know you're a good skater, but when you're up for a good race around the rink or some "trucking" -give Aunt Ashley a call! :) :) :) I'm jealous I don't live there, so Sawyer-man could have some black skates, and I could teach him some ol' school rap music at the skate castle! :) HAHA! J/K! (not really!) SEE YOU SOON!
