Geneticist

The big girls had a big day yesterday. Grandaddy and GMama (my parents) picked the girls up early in the morning and they went to Chattanooga to play at Lake Winnie. Lake Winnie is an amusement park that apparently is perfect for preschoolers - a scaled down version of Opryland, is how my mom described it. They rode all the rides, played in the water and had an unbelievable time. The weather was perfect, the girls were cooperative and there were no lines at the rides. Sounds like a perfect day to me!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch... Scott wasn't scheduled to work yesterday or today, so he came home for a very long weekend. We enjoyed our (quiet) time together with Caroline yesterday. We saw a geneticist in Huntsville yesterday afternoon. We really had no idea what to expect from this appointment. I even googled "what to expect from geneticist" the night before. Basically a very nice doctor sat and talked to us for an hour and a half about Down Syndrome. He started with the biology of it and ended with long-term ideas like financial and estate planning. He did a head to toe physical exam, showing us what DS characteristics Caroline has and doesn't have. If we had seen this particular doctor seven weeks ago when I had just begun reading about DS, he could've been tremendously helpful. At this point I didn't really learn anything new, but the concept of sitting down face to face with an expert who could answer all of our questions was good. We'll see him again when Caroline turns 2.

We're looking forward to enjoying our long weekend with several fun social events on the calendar. The pediatrician still says that Caroline should stay away from people and germs until she gets her first set of shots at the 2 month mark. In order to keep our sanity, Scott and I have determined that outside places are ok. :) Therefore, 2 picnics/pool parties this weekend are just what the doctor ordered. I'll probably keep Caroline in the sling which keeps little fingers away but allows the mama to get out of this house.

Have a great weekend!!

Hi- just checking in - my son Bennett was born about 2-3 weeks before your daughter and has DS as well as AVSD. He will be having his surgery this Thursday- so glad to be getting it over with! Your little Caroline is precious and I'm glad things are going well. Just wanted to let you know I still follow your story and hope that things are going well!!
