There are two jobs I've always wanted to do: work a polling place and a telethon. With the encouragement of my sweet husband, I fulfilled one of those this week. Our local Christian music station (syndicated WAY-FM) is holding their annual pledge drive. I spent almost 4 hours at the radio station on Tuesday afternoon, answering the phone and taking pledges. I LOVED it. The first two calls were crazy and I seriously thought that the supervisor was going to fire me. On the second phone call I took I let the guy hang up without pressing the "confirm pledge" button because I was busy recording the nice things that he had said about Jesus and the radio station. The supervisor (who was already standing behind me b/c of the first crazy call that I messed up) clucked her tongue and said, "Ohhhhhhhh, we NEVER let them hang up without pressing the "confirm pledge" button. You must confirm the credit card information with the system...." Well, sure enough. The guy had already hung up when I pressed the "confirm pledge" button and the credit card number was wrong. I was scolded again and told I would have to call him back. I called the number that he gave me and sure enough the phone number was wrong as well. I must've really messed up and written down BOTH the wrong credit card info AND phone number. Oh, I'm such a loser. I'm definitely going to be asked to leave. In my defense, it was REALLY loud in the room... Well, it turns out that the guy had pledged last year and hadn't paid in many many months and his credit card was actually unusable. Whew!! It wasn't my fault after all! In fact, I probably saved the radio station a headache in discovering that early. Right?? Take that supervisor lady! :)
Turns out that my mom has always wanted to be a bell ringer for the Salvation Army. She doesn't want to go by herself (and be robbed), so I've volunteered to go with her. She's already called to sign us up. This isn't on my short list of ideal gigs since my jobs were more indoor and heated, but I'll let you know how it goes! :)

Well, that is fun! I'd like to ring the bell too! Wish I could join y'all! Are you going to go back to the radio station?
