Thanksgiving Traditions

I went to Grace's Thanksgiving party at school the other day.  I'm so thankful for opportunities like that.  While I was there, Grace's teacher was reading a Thanksgiving story to the kids.  She stopped and talked to the parents in the room for a minute.  "Your children do not know their family Thanksgiving traditions.  I had maybe one student who could tell me about their traditions.  They don't know if they stay at home or travel.  They don't know what they eat or anything else about Thanksgiving.  Maybe THIS is the year that you could talk to your child about what traditions your family has."  Well, Mrs. Lang got me to thinking.  My family doesn't have Thanksgiving traditions.  We've been somewhere different every year with different people and circumstances.  I began to feel guilty that somehow we've slacked on being good parents because we've failed to establish any Thanksgiving traditions.  Then, I thought again and decided that maybe it isn't so bad.  Because if we had been set in traditions, we would've missed unforgettable opportunities like this..

I know it's dark, but this is us at Cinderella's Castle - Thanksgiving 2006  (yes, Julia is almost 4 weeks old)

We had Thanksgiving today with my parents.  We had Thanksgiving on Sunday with Scott's family.  We're headed to South Alabama tomorrow to have Thanksgiving with my sisters and their families.  Yes, I'm grateful for these opportunities.  We moved to Alabama so that we wouldn't miss the big and little life experiences with our extended family.  But no, I don't regret for a minute the fact that we don't have any Thanksgiving traditions yet.  We're just getting started....
